Ruth's Food Cooking Site
Well my husband did it again! He's a genius. I walked upstairs 3 days ago to Dan telling me I had an email I needed to look at. He was doing some updates on my laptop, so I said I've quick look, and to my great surprise it was from him. In this email was a link to my own recipe web site. ruthsfood.com One he had put together using Drupal in 2 afternoons.
We've talked about for years having our own recipe site. When growing up my mom cooked all the time, but there wasn't much money so she rarely tried new recipes and we had a lot of the same things all the time. For as far back as I can remember I loved to cook and bake. I was always interested in trying new recipes. I did some when I was young, but wasn't encouraged to do much, being told that buying all the different ingredients was too expensive.
When Dan and I were married in 1999 I started cooking and baking again. In earnest. At first I made all the old favorites I remembered growing up with, and to my great surprise, they didn't taste as good as I remembered. So I then started trying new recipes. Dan was wonderful at helping me figure out techniques. His mother had taught him well when he was growing up. It also helped that he loves any and all foods and will try anything. I quit my waitressing job when we got married and went to work with Dan out on our ranch. His parents lived in the big ranch house at the time, so we commuted 60 miles a day. Monday through Friday we would eat lunch at the ranch and Dan's mom Joan would cook for us. Wow she could cook! I had never tasted things like she cooked and she was always trying new recipes too. I have to say a lot of my love of cooking and baking came from my mother in law. I learned so much from her and will always look back fondly on the times we spent together in the kitchen. So many hours.
Her kitchen is now my kitchen. We moved out to the big old ranch house when she passed away in 2007. I think of her often when I am cooking in the kitchen and especially when I use her cook book "Glorious Food". When Dan was about 13 years old he and his mom spent a great deal of time and took all her favorite recipes and made her collection into a cookbook. I am the lucky owner of the last 2 copies and I use them often.
This new site will consist of recipes I love and have discovered. Then recipes of old time family favorites. Joan's cook book "Glorious Grub" will eventually make it's way to digital form for the enjoyment of many happy cooks. I hope you love these recipes as much as I do.
If you have comments or suggestions please let me know. I'd love to hear from you all. I've got maybe a dozen recipes on so far and many more to come. I am trying to do a few a day.
The web site is ruthsfood.com
Happy Cooking!
